Prop 6 Victory

On Tuesday, Texas voters passed Proposition 6, the constitutional amendment that will take $2 billion out of the state’s Rainy Day fund to create two accounts to help fund water projects across Texas. The projects include building new reservoirs, fixing pipes, and groundwater development. The legislation behind Prop 6 also stipulates that at least 20 percent of the funds given out would have to be used for conservation and reuse, and 10 percent would have to serve rural areas, which can be put towards agricultural conservation. It truly must be a collaborative approach to effectively solve our water crisis.

The recent drought put a significant strain on Texas’ water supply and it takes a concerted effort by all water users to move Texas forward. The Colorado River Alliance is doing its part by hosting educational conservation programs for youth, educating adults and collaborating within the Colorado River basin community to raise awareness.
