CRA staff have worked with Teachers to enhance the Redbud YES program for a blockbuster fall 2014 season. Students who come to the Redbud center enjoy a 4-hour field trip (link to Redbud YES Program Webpage) on our grounds where they learn about the Colorado River, water conservation, the water cycle, and watersheds through hands on activities and games.
This past spring, AISD 3rd Grade Teacher David Robenhorst loved what his students were learning on their field trip, and saw how many of these students discovered new aspects of how the water cycle worked. His group learned about ways in which we could conserve our natural resources and noted: “The amount of enthusiasm from the staff was contagious and it prompted students to interact and ask questions on a higher level.”
David has two favorite activities that really inspire his students: the Water Conservation Station and the Water Cycle Station. David said, “The water conservation station is amazing. Before the field trip, students leave the water running while they are brushing their teeth. After the field trip, they have changed that habit and now turn off their faucet while they are brushing. It’s extremely powerful.” David highly recommends for 3rd-5th grade teachers to bring their students to the Redbud Center because we cover all TEKS related to the water cycle. He said, “I feel that the Station Leaders are extremely knowledgeable, engaging and bring the whole idea of water conservation to a personal level for all students to be able to relate to.”
